Looking for something to do that doesn’t involved the beach? The USS Alabama Memorial Park is located in Mobile, just about 45 minutes from Gulf Shores. There you will find the USS Alabama Battleship, the USS Drum, multiple tanks, artilleries and aircrafts. History buffs will absolutely love all of the attractions that include in depth looks into the lives of the crew and the innerworkings of war time. Kids will enjoy climbing the multiple floors of the ship and exploring the nooks and crannies. There is a small admission fee that will allow you to spend all day at the attractions. We recommend atleast 2-3 hours to tour everything. After you depart, head back east along Battleship Parkway, and take your pick of 10 or so restaurants that sit perched along the bay. Each has a fantasic view and most serve fresh fish caught directly from the gulf. Our personal favorite is Felix’s Fish Camp.

From its humble beginnings on February 1, 1940 as the keel was laid at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia, Battleship USS ALABAMA (BB-60) has had a remarkable career. She began her World War II adventures in the North Atlantic in 1943, then later that year, went to the South Pacific seas. She ended up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions.
